Population ageing is a phenomenon widely observed in the developed countries, such as Greece. Ageing is related to changes in the age distribution of a population and in particular, to high proportions of elderly, one of its consequences is increasing pressure on the health welfare system. Hence, examining factors affecting the health of the elderly is crucial. The aim of the present study is to explore the extent to which demographic characteristics (age and gender) and socioeconomic factors (educational attainment and income) are associated with the physical health (chronic conditions) of older adults in Greece. Such factors are very important and are related both to morbidity and mortality. Associations with variables pertaining to physical and mental health (difficulties in activities of daily living, somatic and depressive symptoms) as well as risky health behaviour (physical inactivity and obesity) are also examined. Associations are explored using logistic regression techniques.
