Abstract

The subject of this master’s thesis is an examination of the relationship between Rap music and the social struggles that developed in Greece during the period 2012–2025, as well as the development of a digital artifact based on this relationship. The topic is approached from a socioclass perspective. The study examines the relationship between Art, in a broader sense, and ideology, while focusing more specifically on the role that Rap music—both today and throughout the years—as the musical genre most widely embraced by young people, can play in the revitalization of the popular class movement. Regarding the ideological dimension of the thesis, the research does not seek to investigate whether Rap music, and consequently Art as a whole, can raise awareness or radicalize its audience, as this is considered a given. Instead, it examines the extent to which artists within the Greek Rap scene have attempted, through the content of their lyrics, to contribute to this process and whether they have been successful in doing so. A significant part of the thesis is dedicated to the anti-fascist struggle that emerged within the working-class movement following the murder of Pavlos "Killah P" Fyssas by members of Golden Dawn in 2013. The Greek Rap scene played a leading role in this struggle, which continues to this day. At the same time, this thesis attempts to model social resistance as both a cultural component and a cognitive phenomenon through a digital artifact, specifically a website. To support this approach, a theoretical framework for the proposed model was developed. Furthermore, the website is analyzed from both technological and practical perspectives. A questionnaire was also designed and distributed to evaluate the website, focusing both on the quality of its content and on its User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI). The thesis further discusses the technical challenges encountered during the development process and the methods employed to address them. Ultimately, it underscores the significance of the research and proposes directions for future studies on the topic.
