This thesis investigates the role of strategic adaptation in the development of organisational resilience in the context of economic and business instability. Organisations are required to establish strategies that will not only enable them to effectively address external challenges but also to maintain their long-term competitiveness in an environment that is becoming more volatile due to economic crises, technological advancements, geopolitical instability, and intense competition. This study's primary objective is to evaluate the significance of strategic adaptation in the development of organisational resilience and to identify the key strategic practices that Greek enterprises employ to address environmental changes and uncertainty.
The research employs a qualitative research methodology that involves a comparative analysis of numerous case studies of three Greek enterprises—Pharmathen, Sklavenitis, and Papastratos—as well as a structured evaluation of pertinent academic literature. The literature review delineates the theoretical frameworks of strategic management, organisational resilience, dynamic capabilities, innovation, and digital transformation. Case studies are employed to demonstrate the ways in which various strategic strategies can enhance organisational resilience in difficult business environments.
The findings suggest that there is no singular strategy that results in organisational resilience. Rather, resilience is established through the development of dynamic organisational capabilities, operational excellence, digital transformation, human capital development, and the adaptation of business models to changing market conditions, as well as long-term strategic planning and sustained investment in innovation. Despite the fact that all three organisations operate in a variety of industries and implement a variety of strategic solutions, they all enhanced their organisational resilience by implementing sustainable strategic investments, effective resource allocation, and continuous learning.
The research findings indicate that strategic adaptability is a fundamental requirement for the preservation of long-term competitive advantage and the development of organisational resilience in uncertain business environments. Additionally, the results contribute to the existing literature on strategic management and organisational resilience, while also providing practical implications for managers who aspire to secure sustained corporate growth and promote organisational adaptation.
