Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the phenomenon of the glass ceiling in the maritime sector as a major barrier to the professional advancement of women. The study focuses on highlighting the gender-based challenges women face throughout their careers in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Through a quantitative survey conducted using a structured questionnaire, targeting female maritime professional, the study aims to document experiences, perceptions, and obstacles related to career progression, access to leadership positions, and overall professional development. Additionally, the thesis seeks to identify factors influencing women’s equal participation by examining issues of culture, institutional support, professional expectations, and stereotypes. The research findings are expected to provide a well-founded picture of the current state of gender equality in the maritime field, aspiring to serve as a springboard for further study and the development of targeted policies that promote increased female participation in the sector.
