Abstract

This thesis examines the role of maritime transport in shaping modern global logistics networks within the framework of supply chain management. The analysis focuses on the case study of COSCO Shipping Holdings Co., Ltd., exploring its strategic development towards integrated logistics services and door-to-door transportation. The study is grounded in the theoretical framework of supply chain management, global logistics networks, and maritime transport economics. Particular emphasis is placed on the transformation of shipping companies from traditional ocean carriers into integrated logistics providers operating across the entire supply chain. In addition, a comparative analysis between COSCO Shipping and Maersk is conducted in order to evaluate their strategic positioning in the global logistics market. The findings indicate that the relationship between the two companies is primarily characterized by strong competition, especially in container shipping and integrated logistics services. Although both companies operate within common global transport networks and exhibit functional overlaps in infrastructure and logistics systems, this interaction does not constitute direct cooperation. Instead, it reflects the structural characteristics of the global shipping industry, where major firms coexist within shared logistics environments. Overall, the study highlights the strategic importance of maritime transport in global supply chains and the dominant role of competition in shaping modern logistics services.
