Financial technologyAbstract
This master’s thesis examines the impact of financial technology (FinTech) on the market and
the banking sector, highlighting the key challenges and opportunities arising from the digital
transformation of financial services. The main objective of the study is to explore how
FinTech technologies reshape the operation of traditional banks, influence their strategic
orientation, and contribute to the formation of a new financial environment.
The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes the concept and evolution of FinTech, as well as the
dominant business models developed in the field of digital financial services. In addition, the
study examines the patterns of interaction between traditional banks and FinTech firms,
through both competition and cooperation, while particular emphasis is placed on the
regulatory and supervisory framework at national and international level. This analysis
underlines the role of regulation, data protection, and risk management in maintaining trust
and stability within the financial system.
The thesis also incorporates an empirical investigation, which is used in a complementary
manner to enhance the understanding of users’ attitudes and behavior towards digital financial
services. The empirical dimension supports the identification of key trends related to the
adoption, trust, and perceived usefulness of FinTech applications.
Overall, the study concludes that the impact of FinTech on the banking sector does not take
the form of a complete substitution of traditional banks but rather manifests through an
evolutionary transformation. This transformation leads to the emergence of a hybrid financial
model, in which digital innovations operate complementarily to traditional banking services,
enhancing efficiency, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability, while highlighting the
need for strategic adaptation and institutional flexibility in the contemporary financial
environment.
