Can, and under what conditions, daily habits, environmental factors and socio-economic conditions influence the happiness levels of a population living in an urban environment? Which indicators of healthy lifestyles have a statistically significant relationship with well-being and to what extent can they be used for both interpretative and predictive purposes?
This thesis presents the design, implementation and main conclusions of an empirical statistical analysis that examines the relationship between the main indicators of healthy lifestyles, environmental, economic and health factors and happiness levels. The analysis is based on secondary data and includes the application of a set of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, such as normality testing, mean difference tests (t-test, Mann-Whitney, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis), independence tests, linear and multiple linear regression analysis, as well as scenarios for predicting happiness levels under different conditions.
The results of the analysis demonstrate that specific indicators, such as the environmental pollution index, the cost of basic goods and services, working hours, life expectancy and obesity levels, show a statistically significant correlation with happiness levels. At the same time, the analysis in multiple categories highlights differences between groups, confirming that well-being is not a unidimensional phenomenon, but is influenced by other factors. Finally, the regression models show satisfactory explanatory and predictive capacity. Consequently, the findings of the results and the limitations could contribute to filling the existing research gap.
