In contemporary Greek society, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has mainly been associated with specific applications (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Siri). The average citizen has understandably linked the function of AI to these applications, as they are the most widely discussed and heavily promoted to the public. However, many people are unaware of its true capabilities as well as the potential risks involved. One way for citizens to understand AI is through the educational process. The integration of AI into the Greek educational system un-der current social conditions is considered necessary in order to upgrade and modernize education, while also teaching students how to use AI safely and responsibly.
Since Artificial Intelligence constitutes one of the most innovative technologies of our time, with significant applications across many sectors—including education—the study of its integration into the educational process is crucial. Such research enables future active citizens to understand the potential for improving learning outcomes and optimizing the use of educational resources. At the same time, examining the challenges and risks that arise from the use of AI can assist educational institutions in adopting this technology in a safe and re-sponsible manner.
Given the multifaceted importance of Artificial Intelligence in education for science, society, and business, the present undergraduate thesis adopts a literature review methodology. It is based on scientific articles, case studies, and relevant literature concerning Artificial Intelligence and its application in education and society. The aim is to analyze and critically examine this material in order to derive clear conclusions and propose recommendations for educational institutions in Greece.
The analysis of the topic is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of AI ap-plications in education, facilitating an understanding of both the positive and negative out-comes that may emerge. Consequently, the limitations faced by educational institutions and society as a whole will also be highlighted. In conclusion, the study investigates whether the implementation of AI in education is ultimately feasible and to what extent broader society can support it, provided that significant changes are made, such as teacher training, the up-grading of digital infrastructure, and the adaptation of policies to new technological developments.
