Abstract

The current postgraduate thesis focuses on the creation of a digital museum designed to showcase and highlight sacred devotional portable icons preserved in the Museum of the Holy Monastery of Saint Nektarios in Glyfada. The research section examines the role and significance of emerging technologies in the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage. It presents digitization methods as well as examples of virtual and augmented reality applications implemented in contemporary museums. The practical section outlines the design and development process of the digital museum, analyzing each stage, varying from the digitization of the portable icons to their integration into the digital environment, ultimately enabling visitors to navigate and explore the virtual space.The aim of the thesis is to contribute to bridging cultural heritage with digital technologies, promoting contemporary approaches to the interpretation and presentation of ecclesiastical artifacts within a virtual environment.
