The present thesis examines the design and significance of parallel information systems in relation to the existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) infrastructure within a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) company. The aim of the study is to highlight how the utilization of parallel computing and information architectures can enhance efficiency, flexibility, and overall competitiveness of 3PL enterprises, which are required to manage increasing volumes of data and complex logistics processes.
The methodology followed includes an extensive literature review on information systems, ERP systems, parallel computing, and the role of 3PL companies in the supply chain, as well as a historical overview of their evolution. In addition, a case study was conducted in a transportation company operating as a 3PL provider, involving an analysis of the information systems in use (Nexus ERP, SAP ERP, and WMS) and the business processes they support.
The results of the study demonstrate that the combination of a central ERP system with parallel information systems can improve data processing speed, interoperability, and real-time decision-making. The main findings emphasize that the adoption of appropriate parallel system architectures constitutes a critical success factor for modern 3PL companies, offering significant added value and creating the conditions for sustainable growth within the dynamic environment of the supply chain.
