Falls onto railway tracks pose a serious risk to human life and to the operational continuity of metro networks. This work studies, designs, and evaluates a real-time fall-detection system based on millimeter wave (mmWave) technology, aiming for high reliability and respect for privacy. It begins with a comparative review of surveillance technologies (CCTV/AI, LiDAR, infrared, ultrasonic) in terms of accuracy, robustness, cost, and data protection. A modular architecture is then proposed, with sensors placed at strategic points along the vertical part of the platform, while a central subsystem receives the circuit-state signal and triggers warnings or safety automations. The experimental evaluation, using controlled approaches at different angles and high-speed video recording, maps activation points and characterizes angular response in relation to distance, demonstrating the effectiveness of the detections. Limitations are discussed and improvements are proposed. The contribution lies in a practical, economically feasible, and privacy friendly proposal for fall detection on metro railway tracks.
