This thesis concerns the development of a Smart Tourism Website, aimed at assisting
tourists who wish to obtain information about any destination around the world. The application is
based on an interactive world map, familiar to the user from platforms such as Google Maps, so
that there is a sense of familiarity and ease of use. After the registration and login process, the
user has the ability to select any point on the map, and upon selection, the area is marked with a
red circle, indicating that the selected point has been "virtually visited".
The implementation of the application was based on modern software development
technologies, specifically the frontend was developed using the ReactJS library along with the
Vite tool for fast development and flexibility, and for the backend the ASP.NET platform was used
with the C# programming language, which provides a secure and reliable way of handling user
requests and communication with external services such as the Wikipedia API. During
development, emphasis was placed on a clear separation between frontend and backend, as well
as on creating a functional user environment that is both friendly and accessible.
In summary, the app proves to be particularly useful for those who want an overview of a
destination, as it provides valid information in real time, without requiring familiarity with the
geography of the area. Furthermore, the concept of a “virtual visit” makes the experience more
personal and enhances interaction with the map.
