Abstract

Smartphones are characterized by easy and continuous Internet access and have undergone tremendous advances over the past decade. Consequently, it is essential to bridge the gap between the now-mature technologies of web application development and mobile application development in order to ensure the best possible user experience and information accessibility. One way to achieve this is to provide web-application developers with a straightforward path into the world of mobile development, enabling them to bring their expertise and existing applications to portable devices. In the present thesis, the React Native technology (based on JavaScript) and its ecosystem are examined as tools for this purpose. They will be evaluated in terms of how easily and quickly they enable the creation of high-quality applications that come as close as possible to the results produced by native mobile technologies. To this end, a mobile application for managing shared expenses of a building will be developed.
