Last mile logisticsAbstract
Last mile logistics research highlights the growing challenges and opportunities facing the industry, particularly in urban environments where population growth and consumer demands are driving the need for efficient delivery systems. The study highlights the significant externalities associated with transport, such as air pollution and traffic congestion, which are exacerbated by the increasing volume of freight transport in cities. This study used a case study methodology to investigate the strategic processes of logistics companies, focusing on technological innovations, business techniques, environmental impacts and consumer behaviour. Findings revealed that emerging technologies, including autonomous vehicles and drones, have the potential to improve delivery efficiency and reduce costs, although their implementation requires significant investment. In addition, the research highlights the importance of sustainable practices in logistics, supporting the use of electric vehicles and improved urban infrastructure to mitigate environmental impacts. Collaboration between stakeholders, including retailers and local governments, is also identified as vital to optimize the use of resources and improve the overall consumer experience. Finally, the study suggests areas for future research, such as the impact of new technologies on the labor market and the relationship between consumer preferences and last-mile logistics strategies.
