Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to highlight the importance of understanding and adopting by Shipping companies the evaluation of quality management systems, both for the improvement of ship safety and the protection of the marine environment, but also for its contribution to upgrading the quality of services that the company provides to its customers. The framework of rules, regulations and standards that shipping companies are required to apply is presented. The concept of quality in the Navy and in particular in the context of NATO, is then analyzed and, by analogy with the political sector, the provisions that apply to quality assurance on a warship are presented. Focusing on the safety sector, a comparative analysis of the two frameworks of rules is attempted, using the common theme of fire prevention and response in order to draw specific conclusions.
