The purpose of this thesis is to study the electricity market in selected countries in Europe, through the regulatory framework that is applied to them. Initially, the structure and legal framework of the market is presented historically, with references to the creation of Euratom and the Treaty of Lisbon. A more extensive presentation of the legal framework of the market in Europe is then made. Particularly, a reference is made to Directive 96/92/EC, Directive 2009/72/EC and Directive 2003/54/EC, which are an important part of the organization and function of the electricity market in Europe. An analysis is then made about the basic principles that make up the market regulatory framework in Europe, with concern on the regulatory framework and the methods for calculating costs and revenues, as presented by the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER). The study concludes with the application of the previously presented methods to calculate costs and revenues in selected markets in Europe. From this analysis, it was observed that the electricity market is showing signs of growth, while the regulatory framework is stable, predictable and effective.
