In this assignment, I mainly focused on events related to internet piracy and the two diametrically opposed perspectives. More specifically, I address the unstable economic climate in Europe and the United States of America (USA) and analyze events concerning companies in America and how their revenues decreased due to piracy or even the increase in revenues of some of them. Additionally, I focus on key events that shaped society's stance, not only towards online piracy but also towards its supporters. Finally, I make a reference to the fact that only the future can determine what the final stance of society and state laws will be regarding internet freedom, also known as piracy, and the progress of the technology on which it relies.
In this context, it is important to realize the significance of online piracy in the realms of economy and culture. Despite the efforts of many companies and governments to combat piracy, the reality is that internet piracy continues to persist and affect various sectors of the economy.
While some companies view piracy as a threat to their revenues, others may leverage technology to address this challenge. There are examples of companies that have exploited the capabilities of the internet to reach new customers and increase their revenues, rather than solely focusing on combating piracy.
However, the path towards internet freedom and piracy management largely depends on the decisions of society and legislation. With technological advancements and changes in practices and perceptions, this stance may undergo changes.
Therefore, it is crucial to continue examining and discussing these issues, as only through dialogue and understanding can we arrive at solutions that balance the protection of intellectual property with the preservation of freedom and innovation on the internet.
