Abstract
This thesis explores the relationship between emotional intelligence (EQ) and educational leadership, emphasizing the importance of EQ in decision-making and crisis management within educational settings. It begins by defining emotions and delving into their neurological and physiological underpinnings, highlighting the significance of emotional regulation and the interplay between emotions and cognitive functions. The thesis then explores the concept of intelligence, differentiating between cognitive, emotional, and spiritual intelligence, and emphasizing the role of emotional intelligence in personal and professional success. It discusses the dimensions of emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and relationship management, and how these skills contribute to effective leadership.
The thesis further delves into the concept of leadership, differentiating it from management, and exploring various leadership styles and theories, including transformational leadership. It emphasizes the importance of emotional intelligence in educational leadership, particularly in decision-making and crisis management. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities faced by educational leaders in the Greek educational system, which is characterized by a centralized and bureaucratic structure.
The thesis concludes by highlighting the need for further research on emotional intelligence and educational leadership and suggests that developing emotional intelligence skills in educational leaders can enhance their effectiveness in managing crises and making sound decisions, ultimately benefiting the entire educational community.
