AHHEAbstract
The management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in Greece includes the collection, receipt, transportation, temporary storage, reuse, and recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), their components, and assembled parts (including consumables), so that after reuse or processing, they can re-enter the market stream.
This thesis provides an overview of the current state regarding WEEE management and attempts to understand the main challenges. The thesis focuses on the management of WEEE, examining the specifications and standards for their optimal management. It analyzes the various processes required for the effective collection, recycling, and disposal of WEEE, with an emphasis on reducing environmental impacts and recycling materials.
To evaluate the standards and processes as well as compliance with existing legislation for the proper management of this specific waste stream, three questionnaires were created. These questionnaires were answered by the managers in the handling units, whether they are involved in the storage, transportation, or processing of WEEE.
The results showed that managers in all three activities follow and comply with WEEE management standards and procedures. However, there is still room for improvement in increasing the collection of WEEE, their safe transportation to handling facilities, and their final processing.
