In recent decades, food waste has reached alarming proportions, with serious social, economic and environmental consequences. It is therefore a matter of raising awareness and providing training on this issue. This master thesis seeks to contribute in this direction through the design of an educational game that combines augmented reality technology with the pedagogical approach of board games. The combination of these two is expected to enhance the interest of students as well as contribute positively to the achievement of educational goals. The aim of the proposed game is to inform and raise awareness among students about the food waste phenomenon, as well as foster initiatives to adopt sustainable habits.
Recognizing the lack of sufficient knowledge on this issue, several educational programs have been created to inform and raise awareness of this problem among students. One such educational program is "Boroume sto Sholeio" designed by the non-governmental organization "Boroume". This NGO aims to reduce food waste and increase food support throughout Greece. The educational material of its project was the basis for the design of the proposed game, which aims to present the problem in an interesting way and motivate students to contribute to its elimination. In the future, this game could be used in similar educational initiatives and actions.
