This master's dissertation is conducted under the auspices of the "INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY" postgraduate program at the University of Piraeus. It focuses on a detailed examination of Supply Chain Management (SCM) in the pharmaceutical domain, with particular attention to the integration of emerging technologies.
The study offers an overview of the pharmaceutical sector, including an analysis of the types of medications manufactured and a summary of the international marketplace. It also scrutinizes the processes involved in the production and dissemination of raw materials, as well as the distribution of market shares between industrialized and emerging nations.
The complexity and volatility of SCM have been intensified by events such as Covid-19 and the unrest in Ukraine. The shifting geopolitical and economic conditions globally have significantly contributed to these changes. Companies in the pharmaceutical production sector, irrespective of scale, have faced challenges at every stage, from sourcing raw materials to the manufacturing stages and the final distribution of their goods.
The study includes the analysis of the operation of the company AlfaOmega based in Greece, aiming to understand how it responded to recent challenges in its sector. The research focuses on the company's strategy and management, as well as how these practices helped it adapt and survive from the major crises that emerged in recent years.
At the end of the thesis, the findings and conclusions are presented in a detailed and specific manner, providing a comprehensive picture of the situation and potential solutions for the company AlfaOmega. This includes the evaluation of existing practices, the need for further digitalization and technological upgrading, as well as the development of more resilient strategies to deal with future disruptions in the supply chain.
The dissertation culminates in the presentation of the research findings.
