With the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and the prevailing uncertainty, higher education began to look for alternative ways of teaching and learning to respond to the new reality. Synchronous hybrid education is a type of education with multiple benefits, combining face-to-face and distance learning, capable of responding to these needs. However, it also presents several challenges that must be taken into account if it is to be successfully implemented. This case study examines whether the pilot project implemented at THUAS provides added value to the institution. Data from the qualitative analysis of the literature review and Community of Inquiry theory were used to draw conclusions. Through an interview conducted with the pilot’s instructor, it is explored whether students participating in the synchronous hybrid classroom can receive the same quality of educational experience as students attending physically. Although from the interview data, the answer to the above question tends to be positive, there are some steps that are prerequisites for the successful implementation and adoption of synchronous hybrid education that have been overtaken by the institution.
