This paper is intended to study the phenomenon of Slow Tourism in Greece. In the first chapter of this paper, basic concepts related to tourism are analyzed while the consequences of the widely used model of mass tourism are distinguished. The environmental, social, and economic issues raised by the spread of mass tourism led to the need to create new special forms of tourism. In particular, the need for the adoption of sustainable development practices in the tourism sector is examined, which led to the implementation of the Slow Movement in the tourism sector. In relation to that, Slow Tourism provides the possibility for communication between the visitor and the resident of the destination in an authentic natural and cultural environment. In the second part of the paper, the results of the research carried out regarding a better understanding of the development prospects of Slow Tourism in Greece are listed. Finally, the conclusions of the present work are presented, as well as proposals for the development of Slow Tourism in Greece.
