The main objective of this thesis is to study the Enterprise resource planning systems
that have been installed in both public and private hospitals in Athens. ERP systems,
originally created for enterprises but they have been successfully installed also in
hospitals, becoming integrated hospital information systems. The use of ERP systems
in hospitals helps to improve efficiency by providing integrated oversight of all
administrative and clinical activities of a healthcare institution. Of course, an essential
prerequisite for a healthcare organization to benefit from an ERP system, is the proper
training of its staff and the ability of the system to keep the data collected secure.
