Abstract

In recent years in Greece, the energy sector has played and will continue to play a leading role in the coming years, as a large portion of the Development Fund is earmarked for the so-called "green transition". The largest segment for investments comes from groups that are listed on the stock exchange such as PPC, ELPE, TERNA energy, Motor Oil, Mytilineos. For the development and evaluation of the companies participating in the energy sector, their financial analysis would be a guide for their future course in an environment where the conditions for the energy sector are constantly changing. With this thesis we will deal with the financial analysis of companies in the energy sector, after first doing a brief analysis of economic figures for the international and Greek economy. The Research that was done so that we could extract useful results for the course of both the companies that we will analyze, whose activity is primarily in Greece but have collaborated with foreign companies as well as with multinational companies, as well as the energy sector. The research for the writing of our paper was done for the period 2016-2020. The reasons that led me to take up the issue regarding the electricity supply sector, and to draw useful conclusions and results to present this work, are that the energy sector for the economy of Greece is of strategic importance and the reason is that this sector gives the Greek economy a growth potential. We should note that a few years ago the energy sector was a monopoly only with PPC. Today it consists of a number of companies that are active and trying to establish themselves in this sector. It is a sector of the Greek economy that is evolving every day, which is why it is also the sector that you cannot easily investigate in detail, and it is this sector that is directly connected to all the major infrastructure projects that are being built in the Greek territory. Also, the economies of scale it creates are very positive and have very positive prospects for the next few years. Also the energy sector has caused great interest to many investors, which means that the investments made and will be made in the near future will change the economic situation in the country. 83 We will analyze the financial statements for the period 2016-2020, of four (4) large companies, PROTERGIA, ELPENTISON A.E., the Public Electricity Company (PPC S.A.) which holds the largest market share and HERON A. E. Through the analysis of the financial statements of the electricity companies we will examine, we will try to assess the possible existence of a bankruptcy event as well as their creditworthiness. Finally, for the companies we will examine, the conclusions and results will be presented through their financial analysis.
