In this paper we will study the relationship between neoliberalism and education. To begin with, in order to understand the concept of neoliberalism, it is necessary, first of all, to study it as an economic term in the context of the capitalist system. According to the literature, the neoliberal current emerged globally in the late 1970s, as a solution to the socio-economic crisis of 1973-1974, which was created after the "thirty glorious years" of economic prosperity. The neoliberal-neoconservative stream emphasized the expanded role of the state in the economy and society by proposing the retreat of the state and the liberation of market forces, the restriction of which is argued to bring about the socio-economic crisis of states. The strengthening of competition in all aspects of social life and the limitation of the welfare state promote the solution for the above crisis according to the neoliberal current. Capital, then, and not the state, determines the conditions prevailing in the labor market with all that it entails for the working class. In the continuation of this paper, the connection of neoliberalism with education will be attempted. It is widely accepted that the advance of the neoliberal current did not leave the education system unaffected.
