The aim of this research is to explore the level of sustainable development and sustainable leadership within modern Greek schools. Specifically, the study seeks to examine the role of school leaders in promoting sustainable practices and achieving positive environmental, social, and economic outcomes. It also aims to identify the challenges faced by school leaders in this regard and to identify successful strategies that can be effectively implemented. The research utilized a quantitative methodology, employing a questionnaire administered to 143 educators representing different groups from various educational institutions. In conclusion, the findings reveal a mixed picture regarding the adoption of sustainability principles in everyday life, with limited awareness and understanding among the general population. The study emphasizes the need for integrated policies and collective action to create a favorable environment for sustainable practices. However, it also indicates a lack of emphasis on sustainable development within the Greek education system, raising concerns about the preparedness of future generations in addressing environmental challenges.
