This thesis aims to demonstrate the application of the basic concepts related to the field of Project
Management on construction projects in the pharmaceutical industry. Particularly, it presents an
analysis of the knowledge areas of Project Management in combination with the tools and techniques
that can be applied for the implementation of such project. Moreover, it presents the phases of a
corresponding construction project, with focus on the construction stages of a microbiological
laboratory with the particularities which this kind of project has due to the fact that it is part of the
pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on application software, which specializes
in the design and monitoring of construction projects in pharmaceutical industries. This analysis is
based on the characteristics that end users want this software to have. In addition, a case study is
presented with respect to the construction of a microbiological lab in the pharmaceutical industry, in
which the knowledge areas of Project Management are applied. In particular, the stakeholders
involved in the construction of the microbiological laboratory are first identified, subsequently the
project plan is developed, the activities and their duration are defined, and the resources required for
the realization of each activity are committed. Finally, the monitoring and control of the project is
carried out and the conclusions obtained from the preparation of this thesis are presented.
