Abstract

This paper examines the importance of alternative forms of tourism and in particular rail tourism. An analysis of various alternative forms such as business, adventure, religious and other forms is done. Particular emphasis is given to rail tourism and its present status in our country. Through a survey conducted through questionnaires to a sample of 269 people, data were obtained and presented in relation to the present situation and the tendency of people to respond to this form of tourism. In conclusion, this thesis was created in order to present the development, importance and future prospects of Greek railways based on the conclusions drawn from the questionnaires. Furthermore, the contribution to tourism development is examined and proposals are given for its further exploitation as an important choice of transportation for tourism purposes.
