Abstract

This master's thesis deals with the development of mobile networks from the first to the fifth generation and in particular with cases of use of 5G networks. The 1G networks were capable of transmitting only voice signals in analog fashion. The need for better quality, capacity and system coverage led to 2G networks which could, in addition to voice, also transmit data with secure conditions and higher rates. The increased demands of users led to the need for higher speeds and the creation of the 3G networks which were capable of transmitting voice, data and multimedia files. This development was a pivotal point for the development of networks as everyday life was now based on browsing the network and using various applications. The transmission speed continue to increase and this led to the fourth generation of networks whose main objective was to improve the quality of service provision and to create resources for the applications that will follow. Closing the chapter mentions the evolution of the network in the fifth generation is presented provides greater capacity, higher transmission rate, lower delay, mass connectivity of devices and reduced cost. The second chapter present the 5G networks. Reference is made to the basic characteristics of the 5G network and the architecture used for its creation . The chapter closes with the technologies used in the 5G network such as LNE-NR dual connectivity, NFV, SDN, multi-access edge computing and multi-input-output wireless systems. In the third chapter, various use cases of 5G are analyzed. The first use case concerns smart cities. focusing energy, healthcare and industry issues as well as. Then there is a reference to the development of transport. In addition, the 5G network brings radical changes to the safety of society through patrol robots. Then it is described how 5G will affect the education sector and finally the changes predicted to occur in gaming online. It is described how, reference is made to the importance of the use of 5G in Greece as well as the conclusions obtained from the research.
