The purpose of this study is to investigate the crisis management in higher education. This was achieved by investigating the views of the members of the University. In particular, this postgraduate thesis investigates the perceptions of the concept of crisis are investigated, i.e. what the members of the university consider a crisis, what constitutes a crisis in the university area, which factors may lead to the occurrence of a crisis and also the readiness of higher education institutions to deal with a crisis. The above research questions are answered in this thesis through questionnaires that are answered by members of the higher educational institutions, specifically educational, administrative and technical staff. The specific members constitute the main body of the Universities throughout time. The main contribution of the present study is the capture of the views of university members on the readiness of educational institutions in the event of a crisis. The members of the university and in particular the administrators, teachers and technicians are the main core of the higher educational institutions while they know the procedures and the way they operate. Through a bibliographic review and analysis of the recent literature on the concept of crisis and crisis management, with an emphasis on crisis management in the educational community, the foundations, and the theoretical framework on which this diploma thesis was based are laid. In the main findings of the study, it should be noted that the literature on the concept of crisis and what situations can be considered as a crisis is confirmed. In this specific question it is important to emphasize that according to Ferguson et al. (2000) the persons responsible for assessing whether an irregular situation constitutes a crisis are the people involved, so for the present study the academic staff, the technicians and the technical administrators of a higher educational institution are the responsible to assess a situation as a crisis or not. It is also noteworthy that the perception of the readiness of the university was found to be related to years of service. Specifically, as the years of service increase, the university's preparedness for managing a possible crisis is evaluated as lower. In conclusion, it should be noted that the findings of the present study confirm the literature on the concept of crisis and offer additional information on the views of university members on crisis management.
