Leadership, school culture and intercultural education : exploring the views of secondary education teachers

In this research we investigate the views of secondary grade teachers regarding the
impact of school leadership and school culture on the implementation of the
intercultural education model. We produced quantitative data through questionnaires
forwarded to the participants in electronic form via Google Forms. 102 educators took
part in the survey, using a convenience sampling method. The survey was conducted
from November 1 – November 10, 2022.
The results of the research showed that the participants have understood the
significance of school leadership and school culture for the effective implementation
of the intercultural education model. The association of school leadership and school
culture affects the intercultural educational philosophy that develops in the school
environment. The research showed that teachers do not apply a variety of intercultural
practices in their teaching, which reveals their intercultural inadequacy in practice.
Also, through the opinions expressed by all those involved in the research process, it
was found that they have a clear knowledge of the obstacles they face in their effort to
implement the intercultural education model. The proposals they cited at the level of
school leadership and school culture confirm that they are informed about the issues
of intercultural education, which is particularly encouraging for its effective
implementation in the present or the future.
