Human resources is one of the largest and most valuable assets of health units. The pandemic of the virus Covid 19, a huge global socio-economic phenomenon has brought about a variety of disturbances in all sectors of society. Causing problems in companies and organizations in the health sector, makes necessary the need for rapid growth and development in the field of management with the main concern the safety of employees and the quality of health services and goods offered.
Human Resource Management, taking on the strategic management of human resources, in the midst of a period of crisis such as that of Covid 19, acquires a major role as it defines the functions that must be designed to enable an organization to achieve its goals, while ensures the quality of the services it offers, the organization of the business and the assurance of the health of the employees.
The present study, taking into account the theoretical background around Human Resource Management, such as the purposes, functions and objectives it represents, presents the difficulties caused by the pandemic in the work environment, the risks faced by health professionals in the first line and the ways in which the H.R.M. undertakes to face a difficult task as the good of health is non-negotiable.
The first chapter deals with the conceptual and theoretical framework related to business administration. A historical review shows the evolution of management in general context and present the basic principles that govern it such as Total Quality Management, Organizational Learning, Strategic Management, e. t.c.
In the second chapter, from the management we proceed to the Human Resources Management, the content and the functions that govern it but also the goals that it represents, from its beginnings, until today.
The third chapter addresses the role of Human Resource Management in the health sector, the importance of training health professionals and the impact of human resources on changes taking place in the health sector.
The fourth and fifth chapters analyze the problems caused by the pandemic Covid 19 in the management of health units, such as employee safety and burnout, and the difficult role that Human Resources Management plays in such a period of crisis. The focus of the analysis is the case of Greece and the ways in which the Greek health system dealt with the difficulties brought by the pandemic.
In the sixth and last chapter, an analysis of the qualitative research carried out in “REA Maternity Hospital” is performed, in the framework of which questionnaires were given to employees of the clinic, nursing and administrative staff, who hold managerial positions.
This is followed by the closing of the work with the conclusions that emerged from the on-site study of the "REA" clinic.
