The technological progress of the recent years has undoubtedly contributed to the advancement and the improvement of the quality of life concerning a significant part of the population. It is more than evident that technology is part of the society’ s daily routine via a variety of applications that have been created with the assistance of the so-called “smart” devices of the internet.
Technological applications can be found in many aspects of the city life to make the life of the citizens easier, environmental friendlier and more economical. Consequently, the transformation of cities with the tools available to smart habitats has just started to emerge and expand to many places worldwide.
Every “smart” city should conform to the basic features that will be presented in the next chapters; the management of waste and recycling seem to be critical for the protection of the urban environment.
Various campaigns are organized aiming not only to inform, but also to motivate and sensitize the citizens towards ecological conscience. Private enterprises as well as government institutions collaborate to programs and activities that will bestow an ecological quality to every city.
