The purpose of this dissertation is the detailed study of the effect of energy storage systems on increasing the power absorption from photovoltaic parks in the electricity system. Electricity generation through photovoltaics, however, currently concerns only the hours of sunshine and does not cover the night peak of demand. This problem can be solved if a storage system (batteries) is added to the photovoltaic system in order to make the best use of the solar energy produced during the day. In order to achieve the goal of this dissertation, the isolated electricity system of the island of Crete will be studied in various operation scenarios with and without the installation of appropriate storage systems. The study will be conducted using energy analysis software for a number of future renewable energy development scenarios, so that conclusions can be drawn as to whether storage systems can contribute to the smooth and stable operation of power systems and increase power absorption by the grid.
