Human resources management in shipping - The role of women in maritime industry

Abstract
In recent years, more and more efforts have been made to raise awareness of the issues of the human element, as well as efforts to raise awareness of gender issues in shipping and the growing role of women sailors. Undoubtedly, a competitive shipping company is the one that clearly states the mission, reflects a strong commitment to providing quality services and has the ability to quickly adapt to the needs and opportunities of the customer by providing competitive navigation. However, a competitive shipping company must also have the ability to build a competitive human resource. In this study, we intend to evaluate human resource practices in shipping companies and the issue of women's equality in this sector. The observations from the shipping company were analyzed to highlight the human resource management practices applied as well as issues related to the promotion of women in shipping. The results contribute to the existing literature as they are useful for shipping organizations in order to improve women's equal and effective access to shipping.
