The school leader’s role in a mainstream inclusive primary school and the collaboration between the school units and the students’ with autism parents, that aim for the development of the students’ with autism communication and social skills, is a subject which has not been studied adequately in Greece. The findings of the literature indicate that a headmaster’s role is connected to some specific characteristics – keys, such as the collaboration between the headmaster and the students’ with autism parents, a shared purpose between the headmaster, the educators and the students’ parents, the implementation of shared leadership practices, the arrangement of the appropriate learning conditions, the educators’ professional growth, the support of the parents and the community and finally the application of the appropriate curriculum and teaching. The main aim of this paper is to examine the primary school leaders’ perceptions of their role and what they actually do to help their students with autism to improve their communication and social skills. The school leaders’ perceptions and actions were analyzed through semi-structured interviews and took place in Athens. The results indicated that the school leaders perceive their role in a different way in Greece in comparison with the international literature, regarding the aforementioned characteristics.
