In the age of Industry 4.0, companies are called upon to operate in a rapidly changing environment with emerging technologies constantly disrupting all structures of the economic and social fabric. Digital business transformation is considered a keen business tool that helps new technologies emerge in business, which alternatively impacts society.
This dissertation focuses on the analysis of the characteristics of the digital transformation of enterprises. The paper is divided into 3 chapters, in the first chapter reference is made to the concepts of entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation as well as their special features. It is additionally a first approach to the concept of digital business transformation with references to its development obstacles, advantages, and disadvantages. The chapter concludes with the historical background and the special characteristics of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Chapter 2 presents all aspects of digital transformation and provides an extensive account of the most important emerging technologies, digital tools, digital economy, and digital innovation. In addition, it analyzes how the digital transformation affects the structure blocks of businesses, customer experience, production processes, and business models. Additionally, the frameworks and models for assessing digital maturity are also presented in the context of how digital transformation affects culture, vision, leadership, human resources, and marketing.
Chapter 3 deals with the level of digital transformation of Greek companies. Initially, reference is made to the relevant evaluation indicators and the ranking of Greece in comparison with countries worldwide and within the EU. Additionally, the strategic goals and directions of the European Union and the Greek government for the digital transformation of Greek companies are presented and moreover, the work is completed with the presentation of the thesis.
