The present thesis has been prepared in the context of the post-graduate program ‘Economics of Education’ of the University of Piraeus. It aims at the bibliographical reference to the significant contribution of evaluation in educational work, as well as recording the views of primary education teachers on the implementation of evaluation in the school unit.
Within the part A of the study, which constitutes the theoretical part of the work, reference is made to the meaning and importance of evaluation as an essential and necessary process of human life, while at the same time, its contribution to the efficiency and the improvement of the quality of the educational sector is pointed out. Then the two models of evaluation are presented, the technocratic and the humanitarian, as well as its two forms, the external and the internal evaluation, depending on who is the evaluator, how the evaluation is carried out, what is its purpose and how its results will be used. This is followed by the "thorny issue" of non-implementation of evaluation within the Greek educational system, followed by a brief presentation of European countries and how the implementation of evaluation is carried out internationally.
Then, there is an extensive reference to the recently published Government Gazette-20.1.21, which contains the instructions of the Ministry of Education regarding the introduction of a new system of Collective Planning - Internal and External evaluation of the educational work of the School Units, which aspires to soon be applied. In the context of the best organization of self-evaluation, two main phases of evaluation are presented, followed by useful research methods, techniques and tools for the collection and utilization of school data.
Part B, which also constitutes the research part of the present work, includes the presentation of the views of a small sample of primary school teachers regarding the implementation of the Evaluation of the school unit and the Educational Work.
Finally, the study draws to an end with the conclusions and suggestions regarding the implementation of the evaluation process.
