The present Dissertation Thesis investigated the consequences of the pandemic in Higher Education and the repositioning (rebranding) of Greek institutions regarding institutional and operational level. To fulfil the research objectives and answer the research questions, qualitative research was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 14 people working at the University of Piraeus (faculty members and administrators). The analysis was performed using codes and frequencies.
One of the main conclusions of the Dissertation was that Greek universities followed specific institutional reforms to meet the diversified educational needs of students while trying to provide quality learning services. In addition, the Dissertation pointed out that during the pandemic, Greece responded immediately to address critical educational issues.
Primary research has also highlighted the need to implement new educational approaches with the help of new technologies. However, survey participants consider distance learning to be an important opportunity. The dissertation also highlighted some of the main problems of higher education in Greece (e.g. lack of training by staff, lack of support from the state, underdeveloped technological means, difficulties of access and communication). It is encouraging that student performance has increased. However, their socialization and research work decreased. Regarding the effectiveness of the Greek educational reforms in an institutional framework, the Dissertation pointed out that these reforms did not facilitate the educational process.
