The main purpose of this doctoral dissertation is to create an analytical framework that can interpret the effects of competitive exchange rate devaluations - monetary competition - on the trade flows of third countries. The effects of competitive exchange rate devaluations on international trade relations are part of the current reality and need to be analyzed. The present dissertation attempts to create a tool for quantifying the phenomenon of competitive devaluation. Building a composite index is an effective analytical tool for interpreting the phenomena of international political economy, such as what the current research effort seeks to explain, namely the effects of monetary competition in third countries. The analytical framework of the doctoral dissertation is the creation of a composite index. The index built is the Composite Index of the Impact of Monetary Competition. A key aspect of the composite index is the belief that the different characteristics of each country determine the intensity of the impact of monetary competition. Essentially, the main hypothesis of the dissertation is that the effects of monetary competition are determined by the combination of political - economic and international factors of each country and the intensity of the effect of monetary competition is determined by the above combination. Thesis case studies demonstrate the function and importance of the composite index.
