The current study is about online digital gaming and its effectiveness as an educational tool in teaching the lesson of global politics. The study aims to examine whether online games can be used to educate students, either in the classroom or at home. The bibliography presented in the study signifies the benefits of digital gaming as an educational tool in general, but also particularly in the context of global politics, from which it is concluded that teachers can take advantage of online digital gaming to teach students more effectively than the traditional ways. The main part of the study analyzes four games, older or more recent, educational or entertaining in content, free or commercial. These are FreeCiv, an educative version of the well-known game Civilization, Balance of Power, Diplomacy, Statecraft, Peacemaker, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Humankind. The effectiveness of these games in teaching is evaluated in comparison with the observations and conclusions of similar research. The findings show that students are more active and interact more frequently with their classmates during the lesson, while they learn about global politics theories. Learning from these games can be achieved either while students play on their own, or alongside the traditional way of teaching. The teachers have to be well prepared to use online digital games in education while adequate technical support from the educational institution is obligatory, as well as the appropriate technological equipment from the side of the students.
