Logistics, as part of Supply Chain Management, contributes significantly to a more appropriate management of the operating costs of a business. They play an important role and contribution to the development of world trade, the increase of business competitiveness and the development of a competitive advantage based on the triptych “better, faster, cheaper”. Basic functions related to the responsibility of logistics and supply chain management are the identification, management and evaluation of the level of service, transportation and distribution, inventory and warehousing management, order management, supply and materials management, etc.
The purpose of this dissertation is the study and analysis of data, with the aim of investigating the importance of the use of logistics, and more specifically the application of ABC classification, in private microbiological laboratories, as an optimal way to manage their stocks and supplies, resulting in better management-reduction of their operating costs. Thus, the present study will help inform microbiologists about the importance of the ABC classification as a way of managing their supplies and stocks, as well as the benefits that may result in their operating costs.
During the study of the current situation, a complete lack of control of stocks and supplies was observed, while at the same time, a way is being sought to reduce the expenses of private microbiological laboratories, in order to make them economically viable. The reasons that led these companies to seek a way to reduce their costs relate to the cuts in laboratory reimbursement fees by EOPYY, due to the implementation of measures such as clawback and rebate and simultaneous under-costing of laboratory tests, and their unchanged operating costs.
In the present dissertation o bibliographic review was carried out to highlight the importance of proper inventory management and more specifically of the ABC classification, while a collection of 30 codes necessary for the provision of the respective health services was carried out. The data was processed using Microsoft Office Excel.
The results of the study showed that the ABC classification does not follow the Pareto distribution as it should, but the benefits arising from its use and in general from the proper recording and management of stocks, according to bibliography, contribute significantly to the improvement of the financial operation of private microbiological laboratories.
