The present research is related to the field of Special Education (SED). The purpose of this study was to capture and investigate the perceptions and expectations of primary school teachers about SED and to point out the factors that they believe make SED more effective in the educational process. In addition, this study aims to identify the incentives that determine the demand for postgraduate programs in the field of Special Education. Data collection was based on a questionnaire, designed by the researcher for the needs of the study. This paper relies on stratified data on a sample of teachers who are employed in primary education, in the prefecture of Attica, during the school year 2019-2020. The findings of this research suggest that teachers recognize the significance and sustain a positive attitude towards additional training and parallel support. Moreover, the findings imply that teachers are mainly driven by altruistic and intrinsic motives, namely their need to enrich their knowledge, professional growth and to be given the ability to meet the requirements of modern, inclusive, and non-discriminating education.
