Objectives
This dissertation aims to analyze the tourist product of Rhodes, gathering many key and absolutely important elements for the tourist activities on the island, on the basis of which a centralized assessment of the performance and impact of tourism on the destination is made.
Performance gains more weight, as it is used to analyze the island’s recent years arrivals, in an effort to anticipate future tourist traffic in Rodos island, in order to give a clearer picture of the future impact of tourist activity on the island.
The analysis of the idea of sustainable development and consequently of sustainable tourism development and sustainable tourism aims at concluding that it is a one-way street on how to perceive and deal with tourism, especially in Rhodes, which is at a time of unprecedented tourism development, the management of which is crucial for both the immediate future and generations to come.
Structure
This dissertation consists of three parts.
The first part analyzes the tourist product of the island of Rhodes, which is divided into supply and demand. The supply section analyzes Rhodes as a destination. For the demand side, on the other hand, there is an analysis of the parameters concerning the tourists who visit the island. Key quantitative data such as arrivals, overnight stays and various financial data, as well as qualitative data, such as the behavior of potential visitors and what makes them eventually choose Rhodes as the destination for their holiday, are presented.
In the second part there is the theoretical presentation of the idea of sustainable tourism and how it results from sustainable development and sustainable tourism development
In the third part there is a statistical analysis of the international arrivals of Rhodes with the help of the «Statgraphics» data analysis software, which results in a forecast for the monthly arrivals for 2019 .
