Nowadays, more and more couples are forced to use medically assisted reproductive methods to acquire a child. This medical science sector has made an enormous scientific progress, and as a result many medical-assisted reproduction methods are now available. However, at the same time, legal and ethical problems arise.
The aim of this work is to highlight the legal, economic and ethical aspects of medically assisted reproduction.
Firstly, we will analyze the legal framework of medically assisted reproduction, as it has been so far in our country and in some other countries of the European Union. These are France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy and Sweden.
In addition, statistics on the medically assisted reproduction of these countries will be analyzed over the period 2000-2013 in order to draw specific conclusions. It is important to check whether the number of medically IVF cycles has increased in recent years, as well as increasing the average age of people using these methods. Lastly, it is interesting to note whether over the years there has been a shift towards medically assisted reproduction techniques, which in the past have been much lower, whether due to the success rate or the containment of health costs.
Furthermore, the cost of an IVF cycle in our country will be explored, as well as its coverage by the insurance funds. Also, we will discuss the ethical and social issues medically assisted reproduction methods raise.
