In the following diploma thesis the development of a method for assessing the readiness of a school for the implementation of innovative educational actions by the use of technological means was attempted. The main objective of this method is to determine whether a particular innovative educational action, which involves the use of technological means, could be successfully implemented in a school unit.
First of all, the bibliographic part of this thesis includes the clarification of basic concepts, such as the broader meaning of innovation, as well as that of educational innovation and its species. It also presents the process of introducing, implementing and institutionalizing educational innovations in school units. Moreover, emphasis is put on the efforts that have been made to introduce innovative actions in the educational system of Greece. The next chapter of the bibliographic review approaches the meaning of school units’ readiness to implement innovative educational actions and analyzes the factors contributing to it. It is worth mentioning that, since no such method has been developed so far, it was considered important to present two similar tools as well.
Regarding the characteristics of the method, it has been developed to be implemented to private schools, but it could also be applied to public schools. The implementation of the method precedes the introduction of an educational action in a school unit. Furthermore, this method includes some application steps· specifically, collecting data, analyzing them, drawing conclusions and composing a report with the results. The data collection derives from the owner of the school, the headmaster, the teachers who were involved in the implementation of an educational innovation and the technology manager of the school. The data collection tools are the interview of the owner and the headmaster of the school, as well as the questionnaire for the teachers and the technology manager.
The application of the method to two schools in the context of the implementation of the educational action “EduComics” has yielded a number of results and allowed its evaluation by the researcher and the detection of its advantages and disadvantages.
