As shipping is a rapidly developing sector, contributing greatly to global economy, it becomes of great importance to avoid the risks originating from multiple and constantly emerging factors such as the size of the vessels and the crew, escalation of piracy etc. The Automatic Identification Systems can contribute to the direction of ensuring a safe journey, as they capture and present data related to the route and the condition of a vessel, to the end users, thus enabling them to make the best possible decisions. The present paper addresses the abovementioned issue and presents the Automatic Identification systems as well a windows application developed .in C#, which facilitates the presentation of data received through the aforesaid systems.
