Operational cost of a shipping company along with its subcategories, its vital and critical for
the company since in case that cost can be controlled and minimized then shipping company
can maximize profits.
This study attempts firstly to examine the cost categories that exist in a shipping company
and especially operational costs with more specifically reference to crew costs and how
different nationalities can affect it. In the comparative study of different nationalities, in
terms of cost, on board the vessel actual data of a case study shipping company have been
used. The first chapter is an introductory chapter which mentions the concepts of costs in
general. The second chapter discusses and analyzesin general the cost categories that exist in
transport and also business associated with transport. In the third chapter, reference is made
to the importance for a shipping company in particular of being able to know its costs and the
difficulties in acquiring this knowledge. In the fourth chapter, the cost categories of a
shipping company are analyzed and a small breakdown is made for each category separately.
In the fifth chapter there is a special reference and analysis of the operating costs and the
individual categories that they make up. In the sixth chapter this work focuses on the analysis
of crew costs of a shipping which is perhaps the most important part of the operating cost of
the shipping company. In the seventh and final chapter, with the help of a case study
company and the use of actual data, a comparative study was conducted on cost
differentiation according to the crew's nationality for each of the individual categories that
make up crew costs. Finally, following the study of all the above, some conclusions are
drawn about the importance of operating costs to a shipping company, the managerial cost of
the total operating costs, and how different nationalities affect the crew cost.
