This dissertation assignment is the result of a project that was concluded during the master degree “Administrative Logistics”. It concerns the organization and arrangement of a central warehouse of a large super market supply chain. The central warehouse “ΣΙΓΜΑΜΗ” was selected to be inspected in this particular assignment because of the large number of merchandise codes that need to be placed in the picking positions and the large volume of orders that need to be fulfilled on a daily basis.
In this assignment, all major operational procedures of a warehouse are analyzed, such as goods pickup, storage, preparation and order dispatch. Some of the basic criteria under which these goods were placed in the warehouse were:
- Box dimensions - Family of goods - Sell-through volume rate of goods
An effective warehouse organization provides a business with a strategic advantage, since it makes for fast and reliable customer service.
